  1. Why Switch to eVisa?

  2. Step

  3. Key Notes & FAQs

  4. May 2025 Update

With the full digitization of the UK visa system, residents holding physical BRP cards must switch to electronic visas (eVisa) by 1 June 2025. This guide provides a clear, step-by-step process to complete your application in just 10 minutes, ensuring seamless visa status transition.

1. Why Switch to eVisa?

Starting in 2025, the UK government is phasing out physical BRP cards in favor of eVisas. Your eVisa will be linked to your passport and accessible online, eliminating the risk of losing or damaging a physical card. Failure to convert may impact travel, employment, or rental agreements.

2.

Step 1: Register a UKVI Account

(1) Visit the Official Website

Go to the UKVI eVisa application page and click the “Start Now” button.

https://www.gov.uk/get-access-evisa

(2) Answer BRP-Related Questions

1) When were you granted your most recent permission to come to or stay in the UK?
2) Have you ever had a biometric residence permit (BRP)?

3) Do you still have your biometric residence permit (BRP) card?

4) Has your biometric residence permit (BRP) expired?

5) When did your biometric residence permit (BRP) expire?

Step 2: Create a Personal UKVI Account

(1) Enter Basic Information

Name must exactly match your passport.

Select nationality and current ID type (choose “BRP”).

(2) Input BRP Details

BRP Number: Alphanumeric code on the top-right of the card (e.g., RE1234567).

Birthdate Format: DD/MM/YYYY.

(3) Verify Contact Details

Use a UK mobile number for SMS verification (add country code for overseas numbers).

Provide a frequently used email for confirmation.

(4) Complete Registration

Select “No” to deny third-party access.

Save your login details (BRP number, birthdate, email/phone).

Step 3: Link eVisa via the Official App

(1) Download the App

Search “UK Immigration: ID Check” on your app store and install it.

(2) Scan Your BRP Card

Open the app, choose “Scan QR code” or enter a linking code.

Pro Tips:

Remove phone cases and ensure NFC is enabled.

Slowly move your phone’s back over the BRP card’s top-left corner until a green progress bar appears. Hold still until loading completes.

Follow prompts to photograph the BRP’s front and back.

(3) Facial Recognition

Complete biometric verification as instructed; the app will auto-check BRP details.

Step 4: Submit & Confirm Application

(1) Return to the UKVI Website

Log in, navigate to “Contact Preferences,” and confirm your email/phone.

(2) Set Security Questions

(3) Submit Declaration

Review terms, confirm submission, and await a confirmation email.

3.Key Notes & FAQs

(1) BRP Expiry Dates

The system defaults BRP expiry to 31 December 2024. Do not modify this, even if your visa is valid longer.

(2) NFC Scan Issues?

Ensure your phone supports NFC (most Android devices or iPhone 10+).

Lay the BRP flat and press your phone firmly against its top-left corner.

(3) Using Your eVisa

Access it via your UKVI account. Always carry the linked passport when traveling.

(1) Save Confirmation Email: Proof of application.

(2) Dispose of Old BRP: Cut off the corner and dispose of it after linking eVisa (no need to return).

 (3) Update Account Regularly: Ensure contact details are current to avoid missing updates.

4. Post-Application Steps

This guide follows the latest UKVI guidelines. Check official sources for updates. For queries, contact UKVI: 0300 790 6268.

Act now—upgrade your visa in 10 minutes and embrace digital travel convenience!
